These photographs will not be able to convey how much thicker the material is relative to more modern Stiefelhose. I knew that the old ones with dual brace attachments are thicker than later ones, but this pair's material is thicker still. I weight it feels equivalent to the enlisted men Filz. It is real quality.
As you will notice, there are belt loops (which later disappeared) and the belt attachments are for the old type only with buttons.
Unfortunately there is a tiny hole on the front, but I should be able to repair that somehow. I would be interested to know the opinion of our experts on earlier items. My guess is early 1960s. The size is 48 which luckily is my own...

As far as I know, the buttons colour was brown in very early times and then switched to grey. I do not know the exact date when they changed.
I have several Stiefelhoses dated from the very early 1960s to very early 1970s. All have the brown type buttons. All have 4 bottom ankle buttons, included the 1969 ones. The 1971 one only has 3 bottom ankle buttons.
Your trousers look like old type in shape but with last type buttons... any chance the buttons could have been replaced (probably not from what I can see) ?

Simply spectacular events you chaps hold over in the UK! Every year I wish I could find a way to be in attendance, but plane tickets are expensive. I like the NVA veterans in jackshirts picture, showing just what a pain it is to get the hem and belt to work properly. On the other end of the spectrum, in typical genosse Matteo form, he seems to have gone to the greatest of lengths to find his exact size in all items.

I know what you mean about the buttons, but the trousers look like they have never been used, with a small hole at the front probably from storage which I have now repaired. The buttons are all machine stitched and they are all the same type, including the ones intended for the braces
Your guess is as good as mine as to how this might have come to pass...

We remain hopeful, Genosse, to receive one day your crucial fraternal support . However it would have to be said that with all the mud perhaps this was the year to miss...
In my experience belt and Hemdbluse NEVER fit properly and subsequent growth in abdominal girth does not help.
As for MY uniforms fitting me... We conform to the norms, Genosse, it is my allocated duty to show to the masses the superiority of Socialism for its high standard of tailoring , and mechanical efficiency...
