Marks on the chain. H is maker i guess. 'Gemsenkopf' and 8, 5 or 3? for gold contence. Other seems to be quality marks used by the goverment agency. For example A 1 (for Wien), AA, A together with an upside down A and the right one is the Royal "spread Eagle". Very hard to find any information at all regarding Imperial Gold marks.

Cross is made of 2 halves soldered together and hung from the crown with a hinge. 2 center discs separately attached. Banner and chain inserted in holes in the crossarms. All in all 7 parts.

Here is a bit on Austo-Hungarian marks: http://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_02.html
The "H" city assay mark is for the city of Bregenz. It appears to possilby have been stamped over a .750 silver mark.

Since they used the H and the A it seems like the chain was made after 1872 and before 1914-1918. Not sure when they changed from Gold to gilt Silver in WWI.

The lowest of the three markings on the chains catch is an Import Mark that exists in this type from 1902 to 1922.
The FJO-Mini shows the post 1872 Foxhead A 4 Mark for 14k (580/1000 Gold).
The Prussian Crown-Order 3rd Class-Mini seems to be the 1st Crown-Order with small Crown (1861-1867)

Thanks for the info Haynau. How about the marks on the chain? Is there a good site to reference gold marks?

Hi Don,
unfortunately i don't know a AH-goldmarks refernece site, i always have to look it up in books.
The marks on the chain:
1st one (top) looks like a Gemsenkopf (chamois-head).
chamois-head and '3' stand for 18k Gold (750/1000) 1867-1872
chamois-head and '3' and 'A' together in one cartouche stands for 1872-1922
I do know nothing abbout the 'H'
regards

Thanks haynau. What is the title of the book?
One thing that still hasn't been answered is the mark under the "H" mark. Sure looks like the remains of a silver mark to me.

Thanks! Regarding the import mark i've seen different ones like the "V on top of A" and "AV close together" but never the "spread Eagle".
It looks to be a poor stamped 4 to the right of the 'Fuchskopf'. Makes sense when considering the more redish color of Gold when comparing it to the 18k GVK which is more yellow.
KO is indeed a '1st type' and can be seen here:
http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=435588
The KO and GVK did not come with the chain, they been added by me for display purposes.
