Variants

This page will illustrate some of the variants and curiosity pieces that I have come across in dealing with the Panzer Assault Badge.  While most makers put their logo on a least a percentage of their badges, I am sure that some made the badge and never their hallmarks on at al leaving the collector ignorant as to who made the badge.  A perfect example is the "Junker" made PAB.  There is not an example that I am aware of that this firm marked, all we have to go by is their distinctive hinge/catch set that gives the collector a clue.

The Daisy variant is probably one of the best known curiosities in regards to the GAB.  Notice the little flower below the tank on the front.  Clicking on the thumbnails will give you a clear view.  The badge was a die forged example.  Currently, the author is unaware of which firm is responsible for the this badge.

This is the Junker PAB.  When you expand the pictures, on the right you will see a "normal" early version.  Pictured on the left and below is one with an advanced deterioration of the die strike.  I have seen all degrees of this imperfection, from a normal scratch to the advanced state found in the example to the left and below.

Another die strike imperfection is noticeable in the date of this F.L.L. badge.  Notice how the number 3 is practically obliterated on the bronze example on the left and below.  Compare with the silver on the right.  This is another rare variant.

Please excuse the pictures, they are all that are currently available.  This picture illustrate a "field modification" by the recipient.  Notice how the grass areas under the tanks have been cut away.

Finally, I want to illustrate how one can determine the maker of a particular badge.  On the left and on the right are bronze example of the Frank & Reif PAB.  The one on the right is marked, the one on the left is not.
